Meet the Morris'!!!

Kevin and I started dating June of 2007. We really hit it off on our blind date. It doesn't get much better than wakeboarding the first time you meet! After spending all summer on the lake together, and snowboarding all that winter, we tied the knot May of 2008. Being that we are both from the Gila Valley, Kevin from Pima and me from Safford, we enjoy a lot of the same "small town" things. After Kevin served his mission in Portland, OR and attending Eastern Arizona College for a few years, he moved to Mesa with a few friends and has lived here ever since. After graduating from high school, I moved to Tempe to attend ASU where I earned my degree in Elementary Education. Currently, Kevin is working towards getting his journeyman's card as a Lineman with SRP. I work for State Farm Insurance selling home, auto, life, and health insurance. We love riding dirt bikes, camping, bon fires, traveling, going to the movies, ice cream, wakeboarding, and snowboarding. We are starting our own little family and look forward to meeting our little girl in July!

Bishopric Message March 2010

There are storms all around us these days – natural disasters, health problems, unemployment, underemployment, disobedience, complacency, lack of faith – to name a few. Bishop Glenn L. Pace explained:

"The whole world seems to be in commotion. Today's news is filled with accounts of large-scale famine, civil unrest, and natural disasters. Even more devastating in the long run is the spiritually destructive hurricane of disobedience to God's commandments that is engulfing the world. This horrible storm is blowing the moral fiber out of the nations of the earth and leaving the land in moral desolation. Many people seem to be oblivious to this hurricane and have become so desensitized they don't even feel a breeze." Ensign, November 1992

Despite the calamities all around us, the Lord has commanded that we should neither be dismayed nor discouraged, for the Lord is on our side. Joshua 1:9. The Lord has also commanded that we, as members of His Church, should be “gathering together . . . as a defense, and for a refuge from the storm.” D&C 115:6. In the Book of Mormon, Helaman teaches that if we exercise faith in Christ, we will be able to withstand life's trials and the tempter's snares:

"Remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall." Helaman 5:12

Similarly, the great missionary Ammon promises that if we exercise faith and obedience in Christ, “we shall not be beaten down by the storm at the last day; yea, neither shall we be harrowed up by the whirlwinds; but when the storm cometh we shall be gathered together in our place, that the storm cannot penetrate to us; yea, neither shall we be driven with fierce winds whithersoever the enemy listeth to carry us. But behold, we are in the hand of the Lord . . . .” Alma 26:6-7.

As we exercise faith in Christ through being more obedient, having regular prayer and scripture study, magnifying our callings, holding family home evenings, and rendering service to those around us, the Lord will be with us and will fortify us against the myriad storms of this life. I so testify in Christ's name, Amen.

Family Spotlight! Meet the Tom and Mikki Lantz Family...

Tom and I just celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. I grew up in Tempe with 5 sisters and one brother, parents Dale and Martha Markham. Tom moved here from Kansas with his parents and one brother. We met when I was a freshman and he was a senior at McClintock High. Of course, we couldn’t date since I wasn’t 16 – so we just hung out at ward firesides and activities. We both went our separate ways and ran into each other 30 years later after both living in Mesa for the whole time. Everything fell into place and with the blessing of my 4 daughters and his son and daughter we were married January 20th 2005, the day after Kaci returned from her mission. (Kaci and her husband Tyson Adair and daughter Ava live in the ward as well). I was a little apprehensive but only because I had been single for over 20 years. I can truly say that it has been a little piece of heaven on earth being married to such a patient and loving man. Tom may question the heaven part since he married into a bunch of girls and a giant family, but he handles it well. We both love sports and traveling. We head up north to Heber & Showlow every chance we can. Of course, we love the ward and are trying hard to remember names – so everyone keep reminding us.

Bishopric Message February 2010

On the 5th Sunday in January during the combined Relief Society and Priesthood meeting, Bishop Adams taught us some principles to help us during these uncertain economic times. The foundation for his message was President Uchtdorf’s sermon from the October 2009 Priesthood Session of conference entitled, “Two Principles for Any Economy”.

The first principle: Work- “How the Lord loves the laborer! He said, ‘In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread,’ and ‘the laborer is worthy of his hire.’ He also gave this promise: “Thrust in your sickle with all your soul, and your sins are forgiven you.’...The Lord doesn’t expect us to work harder than we are able. He doesn’t (nor should we) compare our efforts to those of others. Our Heavenly Father asks only that we do the best we can – that we work according to our full capacity, however great or small that may be.”

The second principle: Learn- Pres Uchtdorf taught us: “For members of the Church, education is not merely a good idea – it’s a commandment...Strive to increase your knowledge of all that is ‘virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy.’ Seek knowledge ‘by study and also by faith.’ Seek with a humble heart and contrite spirit.” He further counseled us to, “not neglect the fountain of revelation. The scriptures and the words of modern-day apostles and prophets are the sources of wisdom, divine knowledge, and personal revelation to help us find answers to all the challenges in life.”

As we learn to Work and work to Learn we can fortify ourselves to overcome whatever may cross our path to eternal life! Of this I bear testimony in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Relief Society

Our RS Theme for this year is "What Have I Done for Someone Today?" I want the sisters in this ward to not only serve because they love the Lord, but also because they love their neighbors and also, because when we serve others we feel better about ourselves. Glenview is blessed to be a very service oriented Relief Society, who is busily engaged in the relief efforts in many situations, but we know we can always do better. Pres. Monson said that sometimes we become too immersed in the "thick of thin things" and that "we often live side by side but do not communicate heart to heart."

Our goal is to do something good for someone EACH and every day; whether it is someone in our family or perhaps a friend or even a stranger. When we kneel to pray each night, let's take a minute to think about what we have done for someone that day.

The most important thing we can do for someone is to do missionary work. To bring our family, friends, and neighbors unto Christ.

Remember the words of this Hymn:

Have I done any good in the world today?
have I helped anyone in need?
Have I cheered up the sad, and made someone feel glad?
if not, I have failed indeed.
Has anyones burden been lighter today
because I will willing to share?
Have the sick and the weary been helped on their way?
When they needed my help was I there?
Then wake up and do something more than dream of your mansions above
doing good is a pleasure, a joy beyond measure
a blessing, of duty and love!

Have you heard?

Haitian Humanitarian Relief Plea

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued the following statement today:

"Our hearts are filled with sadness as we have watched the suffering in Haiti in the wake of the devastating earthquake. We turn to the example of Jesus Christ, who reached out to “lift up the hands which hang down” and “strengthen the feeble knees.” We are keenly aware that many in America are dealing with economic challenges caused by the recession. However, we are appealing to members to donate to Church Humanitarian Services as their means allow in order to help our Haitian brothers and sisters. Many have already contributed and others are anxious to do so.

Money is not the only need in Haiti. People are frightened, bewildered, and wholly uncertain about their future. In addition to what people can do in helping with food, water, and shelter, there needs to be a calming influence over that troubled nation. We invite our people everywhere to supplicate God for a spirit of calm and peace among the people as urgent aid and reconstruction efforts continue."

Here is the link to the Church's website to read more and see photos of the relief efforts.  Our thoughts, prayers and means go to our suffering brothers and sisters during this devastating time.

Primary News!

The New Primary theme for the year is "I Know My Savior Lives" and the Primary has a new Presidency - Sabrina Taylor, President, Tabitha Morris, 1st Councilor, Sharla Taylor, 2nd Councilor, and Kaci Adair, Secretary.

Primary just held the quarterly activity...it was a Pajama Pancake Breakfast with their new Primary teachers. We had great food and fun learning more about each other.

Immediately following the breakfast we had our Primary Teacher In-Service Meeting. Lots of good information shared and brought forth for the upcoming Ward Conference.

On Sunday, the 24th of January, we held 8 is Great! for all children that will be baptized this year. It was a very special event for those boys and girls getting ready for baptism. Daniel Andrew turned 8 and will be baptized at the end of February.

Shelby Taylor graduated from Primary and went into Young Women's...we will miss her!

The mutual kids sanded and painted blocks to be given to orphanages around the world. There are still blocks that can be sanded and painted with acrylic paints as families or individuals. There are quilt tops to be sewn, file folder games to be colored and laminated, school book bags to be sewn and quilts to be tied.

SERVING THE LORD IN HIS VINEYARD!

Update on ELDER TYSON ANDERSEN!

Elder Tyson Anderson (Canada Toronto East Mission - Mandarin Speaking) is a Trainer with a brand new missionary in the field and enjoying the experience. Here is an excerpt from a recent letter: "Yesterday, I had the wonderful blessing and privilege to watch one of Heavenly Father's precious daughters, Cindy Wang, go into the waters of baptism and start a new life on His path. The baptismal service went really well and smoothly, and she had a lot of support. There was a strong spirit as well. It was a wonderful experience for Elder Winkle as well to be able to baptize her in his first transfer. I'm grateful the Lord allowed him to see success early in his mission. I am also grateful that the Lord saw fit to allow me to participate in this process as well. I think back to a few months ago when I was working with nothing, and the struggles that it took. And now I see it pay off. It's an incredible experience. I trust the Lord with all of my heart. He is in charge of everything. We hope to commit Cindy's son, Bill, to be baptized next month. Even Cindy is referring to him as "our goal" haha. Oh I love that family.Elder Tyson Anderson

We are also working with a young man named Johnson Liu. He's 15 years old and came to church yesterday as well as attended the baptism service. Apparently he already knows some of the youth from school so we're really excited."

UPDATE on ELDER KEVIN LUSSIER:

I'm currently serving in Cocoa, Florida, which is on the Atlantic Coast, about 50 miles east of Orlando. It's much more rural than the hustle and bustle of big-city Orlando. The people here are from a simpler lifestyle - more conservative politically and religiously. The challenges and opportunities to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ are different here than what we found in Orlando. One thing we do a lot more of is provide service to members and non-members that live here. It's so easy to talk about the Church and our belief in Jesus Christ when we are helping people rake leaves, lay parquet floors or paint fences. We are working hard to get more of our investigators to church where we can let our wonderful members (many of whom are converts themselves) fellowship and share their strong testimonies. (Kevin would love to get a letter from the home ward!)

Every day brings new people, new experiences and new blessings. Thank you for your letters, your prayers of support and your unbelievable faith which all help me so much. I think of the Glenview Ward often and know that your strong missionary spirit is spreading with each new missionary you send out. I feel fortunate and blessed to be one of them.

Thanks and love to everybody - - especially those who are active member missionaries!

UPDATE ON SISTER CATEY STROUD:

Sister Stroud is now serving in Tooele, Utah. Catey has been on her mission for almost 7 months. Her first 3 companions were from Samoa, Mongolia, and Japan. (We call it her international mission). While she was called to the Salt Lake City English speaking mission, her mission president just assigned her to the Spanish speaking mission. While Catey had five-years of Spanish prior to her mission, she is now working feverishly to brush up and improve her Spanish. Her area of assignment includes an English speaking stake and a Spanish Branch in Tooele.

While on her mission Catey has had much success teaching up to 40 lessons per week. This is due to the support the members in her area give her through referrals. All the missionaries in her mission will spend the entire day in the Salt Lake Temple this Wednesday as a reward for baptizing 2,086 new members in 2009. She is so excited to spend the day in the Lord’s House.

Catey loves serving the Lord. It is amazing to see the growth of her testimony. While she has had a lot of unique experiences and a lot of success she gives all of the credit to her Savior. We are so proud of her and look forward to her emails each week. If you would like to write to Catey her address is listed below. She would love to hear from you. We would like to share her testimony written in her own words as the closing of this update.

“I know that this is the true Church on the Earth today. I know that God lives and loves us. I know that Jesus Christ died for us so that we can return and live with Him. I know that it is ONLY through His Atonement that I can learn and grow and become more like Him. As I work to overcome all of my weaknesses, my faith in Him grows stronger and stronger. During all the trying times that I go through on my mission, I become closer and closer to Him. I love Him so much. I pray that I will be able to make you proud. I know that I am not the best missionary, but I try really hard. I have seen so many miracles happen on my mission, in my life, and in the lives of others. My testimony continually grows as I teach others about Christ and His Restored Gospel. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.”

Young Women - Feb. 2010

The Young Women in Glenview Ward are excited to start a new year in 2010 with our new YW/YM Theme-
"Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed:  for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."                 Joshua 1:9

The Stake had a Parable of the Ten Virgins program for all the Stake YW. It was a beautiful dance program with really neat music!

We had a Bonfire/Testimony meeting at the beginning of the month with all of the YW and YM! Thanks to the Petersens for letting us use their property! It was a great night and the Spirit was strong! Lots of great testimonies were borne- the youth in our ward are "Strong and Courageous"!

The YW had New Beginnings at the end of Jan. The theme was "The Big Picture", reminding us that everything we do in YW- mutual, activities, personal progress- leads to the Temple!

And speaking of Personal Progress, work on it each Sunday for at least 15 minutes! If you do it a little at a time, you'll be able to get it all done!

Thurs, Feb 4th is Baptisms for the Dead at 5pm! Meet at the church at 4:45pm!

The last 3 weeks in February the YW will be participating in Stake Sports! The Laurels & Priests are playing Volleyball and the Mia Maids and Beehives are playing Softball! Your leaders will let you know the times!
Welcome Shelby Taylor as our newest Beehive!! We're excited to have you! Ü
