Relief Society

Institute starts again for all sisters who are interested. It's going to be on Thursdays from 9:30-11:00 and they are going to study the Book of Mormon. Jane Halcomb sent the message for all of you to get ready to learn.

Also, if you are interested in the nursery, please let me know. I need to give that message to Sis. Huber.

I hope you were all able to get to Stake Conference. The adult meeting Saturday night taught us about provident living as well as going to the temple! Did you all catch the challenges made by Pres. Smith on Sunday? He reminded us about his challenge from the last Stake Conference to give out a Book of Mormon and said that if you haven't done it, to please work on it for this next 6 months. And also, a big challenge for us all to get totally out of CONSUMER debt within 24 months! What great advice from our Stake President who loves us all so much!

Mark your calendars for THIS SUNDAY 8/16 to come to the missionary fireside! It's at the Stake Center at 7:00 and I can tell you from experience that they are well worth the time. If you don't have someone to bring just come yourselves and be edified. The spirit is always so wonderful and it's a GREAT opportunity to bring a non-member.

It looks like we got the okay to have another ALL Relief Society lesson September 13th!! This means a break for all the young women's leaders and primary and nursery leaders!!! We love to have ALL of our sisters together every so often to be able to feel of the good sisterhood we have in this ward!

We will be having our visiting teaching interviews coming up on Saturday September 19th. There will be a sign up going around for each of you to sign up. Please take the time to come and let us know how things are going with your companions as well as those you teach. As a presidency we are VERY interested in how each of the sisters are doing, and that includes YOU!

Don't forget!

Our Ward Meeting times will be changing effective Sept 6th! We will begin at 12:30pm for Sacrament. Yay for sleeping in! Boo for afternoon naps!

Our Stake Conference is this weekend Aug.8th and 9th. There is a Priesthood Leadership meeting at 4pm on Sat. The Adult Session is 7pm on Sat.night and our ward's session is 12 noon. All sessions are at the Stake Center!

Primary

In the month of July we had two baptisms...Cassidy Lebaron and Cody Taylor. Congratulations! We are so happy for you and your decision to be baptized and follow in our Saviors footsteps.

We were sad to see Rachel Williams move this month but are excited to have our new secretary Sister Kaci Adair working with us in Primary and love her so much!

We had a primary activity in which we made Family home evening kits and had a great turn out for that. We hope that will be a help to all the kids so they will be able to start giving a few family nights of their own now.

We are working hard towards finishing memorizing the 13 Articles of Faith by the middle of September. Please be working on those at home with your children and listen to the primary cd which have all 13 of them on it.

We love working with the Glenview Children and feel of their sweet spirits each week!

Our Missionaries!

Update on ELDER TYSON ANDERSEN!

July 30, 2009
Elder Tyson Anderson is having a great time as a missionary in the Toronto East Mission. The mission president's 23-year-old son has joined Tyson and his companion for the summer to make a three-some companionship. Tyson loves being a missionary, and he loves the area he's working in. Tyson and his companions had their first baptism last week: a 24-year-old young man named Elson whom they have been meeting with regularly since July 2nd. Elson has been in Canada only 8 months and had been taught the first discussion a couple of times prior, but this time he was ready. They are also teaching several other investigators.

Tyson and his companions only teach Mandarin, so he's having many new and fun experiences with the Asians. And Tyson absolutely LOVES Asian food. (That's good, because 3 of the elders in his apartment are Cantonese and do a lot of the cooking.) The mission president has asked the missionaries to work on a Christ-like attribute each month so that they can be better instruments in the Lord's hands (from Preach My Gospel, ch. 6). Tyson is excited to have goals to work on.

UPDATE ON ELDER GREG MALONE:

Things are going super well here in meadowbrook. I really lvoe it here. lots of people to teach which i will talk about all of them in just a minute.
transfers!..nothing! except that my son Elder Holley is going to be my new Zone Leader. talk about awesome. im really glad I got to see him before i die...as a missionary. not in real life.
Ok here are the main peoples:
-Kassi...she is a part member. She is really awesome. 16, she is going with the stake up to the Palmyra pageant this weekend so it will be a super big spiritual moment for her. im really excited. she keeps all of her commitments and loves meeting with us. just waiting for her glasses from NC so she can read.
-Sylvia...we are going to do service for her. When we taught her about the BOM, the spirit was really strong and she said she didnt need to pray about it to know that it was a true book. we had a hard time getting a hold of her which is nice because it taught me about dilligence and now we are cutting her grass which will soften her heart and almost gaurentee a church attendance or two. :)
-Hamza...a Muslim guy. he came to church and a baptism and said he will never go to another Christian church again unless its a Mormon church! he loved it. we are teaching about the Atonement today so it will be powerful and he will be baptized soon. he is soo close to a belief in Christ. he use to be an athiest. now he believes in God!
there is more but not enough time. Things are well. im happy and myself which is nice. Elder Burningham and I get along really well. The ward trusts us pretty good and the biking is getting easier. Thanks for all the packages and cards and letters and all the support too. its really awesome!
we should have a baptism by the end of this transfer, which just started, but we are praying for it, so it will happen.

hope all is well in AZ>
love

ELDER GARRETT GREEN:
From Dan: "Well, Garrett comes home on August 13th… yes, that is only 9 days away. He will be speaking in the Glenview Ward on August 23rd. He will start ASU on the 24th so will be living with is Grandparents who live on Florian Circle just off 24th Street and North of Southern." (Editor's Note to ward: maybe we can talk him into coming to our ward instead!)

UPDATE on ELDER KEVIN LUSSIER:

Elder Kevin Lussier is enjoying the work in Orlando, despite the heat and humidity and powerful lightning storms. He recently had a baptism and is teaching a few others. Finding people is challenging. I thought you may enjoy some of his tracting experiences.
Tracting Stories: We tracted for 10 hours on Saturday (I probably lost 5 pounds of sweat that day) and we had some crazy people. One guy told us to go away, and as we were walking away, he turned on his sprinklers. Really?! And then at the same time, a guy drove buy, honked, and flipped us off. The sprinklers shut off right when we left his property. What a weirdo. I enjoyed it though, because it was so hot. Another woman barely opened the door, stuck her MASSIVE dog out barking at us, pulled it back in and then slammed the door. Weird.

We tracted into a kicking party. No one really wanted to meet with us, but then this girl walked out with a beer in her hand. She ended up being very interested in the message. All of her friends were taunting her from inside and she shut the front door and kept talking to us. It was like a real life verison of the "Tree of Life" vision. She's awesome, but the zone leaders are going to teach her because they work for the single's ward.

June 11th was an interesting day. That was the day that I would've been home from Brazil. I kept myself motivated and got the work done.

I randomly picked up the October 2006 Ensign and read it the other day. We have tons of old Ensigns in our apartment. The magazine had Mitch Johnson's SLC Temple painting in it. That painting is now on the wall next to my desk. Tell Mitch about that will you?

UPDATE ON ELDER NATHAN CARROLL

Elder Nathan Carroll is in the Dominican Republic at last! Nathan reported to the M.T.C. on July 1st in Provo ,Utah. His group was among the first to be dropped off at the curb instead of the large family group farewell in the M.T.C.(due to the swine flu containment) His mother found this to be less stressful.

Elder Carroll enjoyed his 3 weeks in Provo, but was looking forward to getting to the D.R. and not feeling very patient about it.He does however miss the chocolate milk immensely.

On July 22, he and about 30 other Elders and Sisters planned to fly from Utah to Texas, then from Texas to Puerto Rico and then Puerto Rico to the D.R. However there was a delay so Nathan's group stayed over night in Puerto Rico ,then flew to Florida the next day.The flight from Florida to the D.R.that afternoon finally ended the journey.

The M.T.C. in the Dominican Republic is on the top floor of the Domincan Republic Temple Visitor's Center. Nathan thinks living on the temple grounds is wonderful. He is learning quickly in his classes, which he loves. His letters reflect his love of the Lord and his enthusiasm for the gospel of Jesus Christ. He can't wait to finish his training and get on with the work of spreading the truth.

His Dominican Republic M.T.C. address is:

Elder Carroll
Dominican Republic
Centro Capacitation Misional
AV Bolivar 825
Santo Domingo,Dominican Republic

However writting a letter from Dear Elder.com is easier. It is a very user friendly site.

UPDATE ON SISTER CATEY STROUD:

Sister Stroud left for her first area last Thursday, July 30, 2009. She first went to the Mission Home to meet her Mission President, President Sonne and her trainer. Her trainer is Sister Kalolo from Samoa. Because Sister Kalolo doesn't drive, Catey will do all the driving. Her first area is in Salt Lake. We found out that she will not be serving in Wyoming or Nevada. They only send the Elders there. Last week she worked at the Oquirrh Mountain Temple Open House for two days. She also was able to attend a baptism and is teaching a man named David who was a referral. According to Catey he is "Golden." She has already had a great experience teaching a women named Corie. The following is in Catey's words: "She (Corie) has a three year-old son, who is just as cute as can be. We taught her about having hope, and pressing forward with faith. I know the Holy Ghost was with me, and that He was the one teaching her. It was a really awesome experience. She wants to be baptized and is praying about August 23rd!"

Sister Stroud lives in the basement of a Muslim couples home which is very spacious. Even though they could each have their own room, according to mission rules they have to share a room. One interest of note is that Catey's Mission President informed her that her hair has to be cut even shorter. Before her mission she had 5" cut off. She said she didn't mind though as she loves to be pampered with a haircut.

Please keep Catey in your prayers and if you can write to her. She may not always be able to write back, but she would love to hear from you. Her new address is:

Utah Salt Lake City Mission
West Entrance
3487 South 1300 East
Salt Lake City, UT 84106-2951

If you would like to read her blog she is at http://sistercateystroud.blogspot.com/
