Meet the Morris'!!!

Kevin and I started dating June of 2007. We really hit it off on our blind date. It doesn't get much better than wakeboarding the first time you meet! After spending all summer on the lake together, and snowboarding all that winter, we tied the knot May of 2008. Being that we are both from the Gila Valley, Kevin from Pima and me from Safford, we enjoy a lot of the same "small town" things. After Kevin served his mission in Portland, OR and attending Eastern Arizona College for a few years, he moved to Mesa with a few friends and has lived here ever since. After graduating from high school, I moved to Tempe to attend ASU where I earned my degree in Elementary Education. Currently, Kevin is working towards getting his journeyman's card as a Lineman with SRP. I work for State Farm Insurance selling home, auto, life, and health insurance. We love riding dirt bikes, camping, bon fires, traveling, going to the movies, ice cream, wakeboarding, and snowboarding. We are starting our own little family and look forward to meeting our little girl in July!

Bishopric Message March 2010

There are storms all around us these days – natural disasters, health problems, unemployment, underemployment, disobedience, complacency, lack of faith – to name a few. Bishop Glenn L. Pace explained:

"The whole world seems to be in commotion. Today's news is filled with accounts of large-scale famine, civil unrest, and natural disasters. Even more devastating in the long run is the spiritually destructive hurricane of disobedience to God's commandments that is engulfing the world. This horrible storm is blowing the moral fiber out of the nations of the earth and leaving the land in moral desolation. Many people seem to be oblivious to this hurricane and have become so desensitized they don't even feel a breeze." Ensign, November 1992

Despite the calamities all around us, the Lord has commanded that we should neither be dismayed nor discouraged, for the Lord is on our side. Joshua 1:9. The Lord has also commanded that we, as members of His Church, should be “gathering together . . . as a defense, and for a refuge from the storm.” D&C 115:6. In the Book of Mormon, Helaman teaches that if we exercise faith in Christ, we will be able to withstand life's trials and the tempter's snares:

"Remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall." Helaman 5:12

Similarly, the great missionary Ammon promises that if we exercise faith and obedience in Christ, “we shall not be beaten down by the storm at the last day; yea, neither shall we be harrowed up by the whirlwinds; but when the storm cometh we shall be gathered together in our place, that the storm cannot penetrate to us; yea, neither shall we be driven with fierce winds whithersoever the enemy listeth to carry us. But behold, we are in the hand of the Lord . . . .” Alma 26:6-7.

As we exercise faith in Christ through being more obedient, having regular prayer and scripture study, magnifying our callings, holding family home evenings, and rendering service to those around us, the Lord will be with us and will fortify us against the myriad storms of this life. I so testify in Christ's name, Amen.

Family Spotlight! Meet the Tom and Mikki Lantz Family...

Tom and I just celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. I grew up in Tempe with 5 sisters and one brother, parents Dale and Martha Markham. Tom moved here from Kansas with his parents and one brother. We met when I was a freshman and he was a senior at McClintock High. Of course, we couldn’t date since I wasn’t 16 – so we just hung out at ward firesides and activities. We both went our separate ways and ran into each other 30 years later after both living in Mesa for the whole time. Everything fell into place and with the blessing of my 4 daughters and his son and daughter we were married January 20th 2005, the day after Kaci returned from her mission. (Kaci and her husband Tyson Adair and daughter Ava live in the ward as well). I was a little apprehensive but only because I had been single for over 20 years. I can truly say that it has been a little piece of heaven on earth being married to such a patient and loving man. Tom may question the heaven part since he married into a bunch of girls and a giant family, but he handles it well. We both love sports and traveling. We head up north to Heber & Showlow every chance we can. Of course, we love the ward and are trying hard to remember names – so everyone keep reminding us.

Bishopric Message February 2010

On the 5th Sunday in January during the combined Relief Society and Priesthood meeting, Bishop Adams taught us some principles to help us during these uncertain economic times. The foundation for his message was President Uchtdorf’s sermon from the October 2009 Priesthood Session of conference entitled, “Two Principles for Any Economy”.

The first principle: Work- “How the Lord loves the laborer! He said, ‘In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread,’ and ‘the laborer is worthy of his hire.’ He also gave this promise: “Thrust in your sickle with all your soul, and your sins are forgiven you.’...The Lord doesn’t expect us to work harder than we are able. He doesn’t (nor should we) compare our efforts to those of others. Our Heavenly Father asks only that we do the best we can – that we work according to our full capacity, however great or small that may be.”

The second principle: Learn- Pres Uchtdorf taught us: “For members of the Church, education is not merely a good idea – it’s a commandment...Strive to increase your knowledge of all that is ‘virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy.’ Seek knowledge ‘by study and also by faith.’ Seek with a humble heart and contrite spirit.” He further counseled us to, “not neglect the fountain of revelation. The scriptures and the words of modern-day apostles and prophets are the sources of wisdom, divine knowledge, and personal revelation to help us find answers to all the challenges in life.”

As we learn to Work and work to Learn we can fortify ourselves to overcome whatever may cross our path to eternal life! Of this I bear testimony in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
